Gary started drumming at the age of 10, playing with local bands. By the age of 20 he was working all over the country with various musicians. In his mid-20's he moved back to Oxfordshire to work with the Idle Experts and Timeless. He continues to work as a professional drummer, and has played in the UK, France, Poland, and Germany. His work includes bands, shows and recording, including radio.

Gary teaches at various schools and in his drum studio, FUN WHEN YOU DRUM!, as well as writing articles for DRUM STUDY and on the internet for CYBER-DRUM. Gary also holds drum clinics with visiting drummers. These have included: Mark Mondesir (Roxy Music, Courtney Pine), Colin Woolway (Suzi Quatro, Rocky Horror Show), Dave Mattacks (Fairport Convention, Elton John), Chuck Silverman (Zildjian clinician/master teacher).

As a performer, Gary has worked alongside The Real Thing, Snowy White's Blues Agency (ex Thin Lizzy), The Ground Hogs, Screaming Lord Sutch, The Boogie Brothers (bass player from Status Quo), Ocean Colour Scene, and members of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Gary has also recorded at: The Old Smithy Studios, Worcester; Foel Studios, Powys, Wales; Timeless Studios, Oxfordshire; and Dungeon Studios, Warwickshire (all 24-track).

Gary joined Mojo Bones in December 2003.
